g42 | we need FOUR . . .

Mariners 3 | Indians 6

The M’s are 7-21 when they score less than FOUR runs
The M’s are 12-1 when they score FOUR or more runs

Lucky me – I got home just in time to turn on the TV and see the game winning homer.
Maybe I should have just stayed in the car and continued to listen on the radio and there might have been an 11th inning and a 4th run 😉

ON THE MOUND
Kudos to Brandon on posting a quality start ~ and against a really good team (with SEVEN lefties in their line-up, no less!). He was a little rocky to start and had to work hard all game long. He gave up TWO runs in the 1st, had runners on in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Then, in the 5th he allowed a solo shot and gave up a couple of hits. I’m thinking the great OF assist DP from Endy helped give Brandon the mental adjustment he needed to come back out for the 6th. Great to see him finish strong, retiring the side in order w/TWO K’s and a fly out. Overall, this outing was a really nice progression and should be a huge confidence boost.

} Charlie and Carter were, in a word, AWESOME!
3 and 1/3 innings of HITLESS, SCORELESS relief w/FOUR strikeouts

} and then there was Lucas . . .
Carter started the 10th by striking out the first batter then, Lucas came in and got the next guy to ground out.So, with TWO outs, he then walks a batter and gives up a single ~ then the big blow ~ Kipnis’s 3-run game winning homer.

AT THE PLATE
Some more long ball . . .
~ Raul with his 5th homer in his last SIX games (7 total) and it was his second off a lefty, which apparently he had none of last year
~ Kendrys hit his 5th homer of the season
~ Brendan with TWO more hits, including his FIRST extra-base hit (a double) of the season
~ unfortunately, once again, the big factor was  0 fer 7 w/RISP

IN THE FIELD
* Dustin stole his first base
* TWO dp’s – including an OF assist by Endy to Justin to double off a runner at 1B
* Kelly threw out a would-be base-stealer
