And THIS is what happens when they let their strengths shine!
^When their pitching and defense is “doing what it does” – they’ve got a shot almost every time.
^When it’s not – see the previous EIGHT games.
ON THE MOUND
Great to see Kuma bounce back from his last start AND the first couple of innings of this game. After a lead-off homer and a couple of hits and a sac-fly, Kuma faced the minimum for the next SIX innings…
96 pitches ~ EIGHT innings ~ FIVE hits ~ TWO earned runs ~ EIGHT strikeouts
} Tom pitched a perfect TWO innings in the 9th and 10th
} Carter and Ollie combined to give up the lead in the 11th (Carter gave up the hit, Ollie allowed the runner to score)
} Yoervis wasn’t exactly lights out, but he got some HUGE outs, namely a strikeout and a ground out (in that order 😉 ) with a runner on 3B in the 13th
AT THE PLATE
~ Endy breaks up the “no-hitter” in the bottom of the 4th
~ Morales evens the score in the 6th with a TWO-run shot
~ Kyle a bit unhappy with himself when he hit into a DP in the 8th (only the second such occurrence all season)
~ Raul came through in the 11th to tie it (after the R’s went ahead in the top of the frame)
~ Brendan lays down a bunt with Jesus aboard in the 12th and the pitcher boots the ball and BR is safe
~ Kendrys doubles with one out in the 13th
~ Jason singles home Kendrys for the winning run!
IN THE FIELD
* ‘t wasn’t looking good as it unfolded – Cruz hit a ball deep to CF and Michael slipped but recovered fast enough to get the relay in to Brendan who then got it to Kyle in time to NAIL Cruz trying to stretch a double into a triple
* after Beltre doubled to lead off the 7th, there was a Cruz strikeout in the dirt and he was eventually called out on interference, as he bumped Jesus when he went charging between 2B and 3B to catch Beltre between bags, which after a few tosses was done.
* Murphy robs Jason on a GWH in the 11th snaring the ball at the top of the LF wall
* Brendan made a great diving attempt in the 12th but the ball bounced in and out of his glove and a runner was aboard with two out but, it is made moot when Yoervis K’s Moreland to end the frame
