g53 | say it ain’t so, Joe!

Mariners 2 | Padres 3

the cliff notes . . .
Joe was awesome, Jason was clutch, Carter was Houdini and Tom was none of those 😦

ON THE MOUND
You’ve heard of Safeco Joe, how ’bout Petco Joe? (suggested first by kjrmitch)
He had gone 22.2 scoreless innings against the Pads. He did end up surrendering a run (first inning solo shot) but, was lights out otherwise. What a shame to waste what was FINALLY a road start to right home about . . .
SEVEN runs ~ FOUR hits ~ ONE run ~ ZERO walks ~ THREE strikeouts

Apparently, the Pads like to load the bases . . .
^ they did so in the 8th against Carter ~ but came away empty (just call him Houdini!)
^ they did so in the 9th against Tom ~ tied the game (gave up his first hit to a RH’er this season)
^ they did so in the 10th against Yoervis ~ won the game (poor kid, hopefully he’ll learn from it)

AT THE PLATE
~ the bats posted another double-digit (12) strikeout game (ugh!) to go with ZERO walks (double ugh!)
~ They only managed FOUR hits with their first not coming until Endy’s single in the 4th and he would eventually score (Kyle doubled and Kendrys grounded out)
~ Justin hit for Joe in the 8th (he flew out but, good to see him swinging the bat again after the oblique strain)
~ Jason’s homer gave them the lead 2-1 in the 9th (what a pleasant surprise he has been)
~ Nick collected his first major league hit . . .

IN THE FIELD
I didn’t see much of the game but sounds like there were some great plays on both sides. with multiple jaw-droppers by Endy and Ryan, as per usual.

tweets of the game . . .

M*A*S*H and MOVEMENT

Guti slowly heating up on his rehab assignment (another 2 hits tonight -both doubles- and a walk  in a crazy 25-6 Rainiers win in Colorado Springs)

Michael M stayed behind in Seattle – tests on the quad showed just a strain (3-5 days)

Alex Liddi was re-called and Brandon Maurer was sent down . . .
I think this will be best for Brandon – I’ve thought all along he should have started the season in AAA, skipping levels rarely seems to go well.
