ON the MOUND
‘t is a losing battle to attempt finding not-yet-used superlatives to describe our Felix . . .
His performance tonight was nothing short of spectacular. Yes, he gave up TWO runs on THREE hits in the first but, he then he gave up only THREE more hits, TWO walks and ZERO runs in the other SEVEN full he pitched – total of 101 pitches (73 for strikes) to earn his ELEVENTH victory (most ever in his career prior to the break) . . .
EIGHT innings ~ SIX hits ~ TWO earned runs ~ TWO walks ~ NINE strikeouts
} ‘t was a little bit of nervous time in the 9th (quiver meter reading about a 3.5 – w/1.0 being a 1-2-3 and 10.0 being a blown save) for the first time in awhile (including a walk and a wild pitch) but, Nando got it done for his TWENTY-SEVENTH save, preserving Felix’s ELEVENTH victory (most ever for him prior to the break) and the M’s FIFTIETH win (first time to 50 before the break since 2003)
AT the PLATE
Not as many hits as the last couple of games and still only ONE w/RISP but . . .
~ FOUR of the SIX total were for extra-bases: doubles by Brad, JJ and Robbie and a solo shot by LoMo
~ Home runs are always fun, especially when they come on the 8th pitch of the AB
~ A little small ball is fun too, and it tied the game in the 3rd (Brad double, Zu groundout, Endy sac-fly)
~ Back-to-back doubles, with TWO out, are really fun (JJ and Robbie in the 6th), especially when they take the lead
IN the FIELD
* Really nice DP (Kyle-to-Robbie-to-Justin) for the first TWO outs in the 8th, then Felix got a grounder to end the inning
* The M’s had TWO DP’s turned against them and, as I was watching in person, it seemed like there were a TON of outs to 1B – sure enough, SIX of them (aside from the DPs)
