g3 | rubber game = close but, no cigar

Mariners 3 | Angels 5

M’s drop the season opening series 1-2 to the hated Halos ~ the series highlights . . .

  • the bullpen still sporting a 0.00 ERA with even the young guys (Smith and Olson) looking impressive
  • Felix is Felix
  • James ~ please stay healthy ~ we’ll take his outing from last night ALL season LONG
  • Kuma with a rough start to the game but, settled down nicely
  • the bats: THREE homers, FIVE doubles but, ONE shutout

As for the rubber game . . .

close_but_no_cigar

ON the MOUND
The Bear was seemingly still hybernating through the first couple of innings, giving up all FIVE runs during that time. The good sign is that he finally as able to settle down and settle in (albeit too little, too late). His final line . . .
SIX innings ~ NINE hits ~ FIVE runs ~ FOUR earned ~ ZERO walks ~ THREE strikeouts

Tyler, Carson and Danny combined for . . .
THREE innings ~ ONE hit ~ ZERO runs ~ TWO walks ~ FOUR strikeouts

AT the PLATE
Definitely a slow start at the plate tonight vs. Shoemaker . . .
~ Zu and Kyle each had their first hits of the season (Kyle’s happened to be a TWO-run homer (RIcks’s pick-to-click, BTW)
~ Crazy Legs checked in with his first homer and Robbie his first double
~ they were on the wrong side of a strike ’em out throw ’em out w/Dustin at bat and Austin running 😦
~ big chance in the 8th – runners on 2B and 3B with NO outs but Nelson struck out, then they intentionally walked Kyle and Rickie struck out and LoMo flied out
~ NINE total hits but, only ONE fer SEVEN w/RISP – would, coulda shoulda

IN the FIELD
A little bit of good, a little bit of bad . . .
* Our Hawt Corner resident showed off his gold glove
* Brad had a nice play in the 5th
* Nelson had an OF assist
* Robbie committed a fielding error, allowing an unearned run in the 1st

tweets of the game . . .

Day off tomorrow as they travel to OakTown . . .
hopefully, to stomp the ‘phants!
