Jr in bronze . . .

Unfortunately, I’ve yet to see this stunning work of art in person . . .

I was actually working from home the day it was unveiled (Thursday, April 13th) but, didn’t realize until too late that the unveiling was occurring (otherwise, I could have at least watched it on TV/Twitter, etc.)

Thankfully, there are plenty of pics/videos on social media – the detail is impeccable . . .

sweeep!!! | Rangers at Safeco

This series had a little of everything and every way to win: a squeaker, a blow-out and a walk-off 🙂  . . .

Mariners 2 | Rangers 1  Felix wins his first game in ’17 (a squeaker, of course)

Mariners 5 | Rangers 0  Paxton was AWE.SOME!!! Motter (aka: Motter Pop!) making his mark in Segura’s stead 🙂

Mariners 8 | Rangers 7  Kuma didn’t have it today – thankfully, the bully did! And, how ’bout that Mitch Haniger?!? He got ’em back in it with a THREE-run jack, kept ’em in it by robbin’ one at the wall . . . fantastic!!! And, the new found speed showed up in the 9th (Dyson with a lead-off infield hit, a steal and scored the tying run 🙂

Great series  . . . nice to get on a roll, let’s keep rolling on past the Fish!!!

home opener | the pomp matched the circumstance

It was nice to have the “pomp” (opening day ceremonies) match the circumstance (a win!) for the #MarinersOpener

All the usual touches from the bunting, to the confetti, to the Make-A-Wish kid run around the bases to the video with Dave’s voice reading the poem “Welcome Back Baseball” . . .

                Welcome back, baseball. Welcome back.

And, since this also happens to be the celebration of the Mariners 40th season, there was an extra special ‘first pitch’ – a group effort from: Willie Bloomquist, Harold Reynolds, Mark McLemore and Rupert Jones

Dad and I had a fabulous time, as usual, our tradition . . .

Of course, the best part was the WIN!!!

(especially after the abysmal road trip that started the season)

Mariners 6 | Astros 0

Talk about clicking on all cylinders!

  • Pitching was awesome (just imagine, an entire year of THIS James Paxton 7IP-8K-0R)
  • 2-5 in the line up came through at 8 for 14 w/3 doubles, and FIVE RBI
  • 6-9 came through with 1 walk, 3 hits, 2 runs
  • the lone bad spot was 1 – Segura left the game with a hamstring strain

All-in-All, a great day (even splurged on some great new M’s merch: jacket, t-neck and jersey)

So happy baseball is back 🙂

halo sweep | heart-breaker finale

The bats FINALLY came alive in the finale and just when we thought we’d see one of the final “firsts” (a starters ‘W’) the bullpen totally imploded . . .

a 9-3 lead in the 9th turned into a nightmarish 10-9 loss

Mariners 9 | Angels 10

the positives thus far:

  • 3 for 8 w/RISP (after 1 for 7, and 1 for 6 in the first two games
  • Robbie breaking out: homer, double, FIVE rbi
  • Mitch leading the M’s in homers (THREE) and runs (EIGHT)
  • Gene leading the Ms in average (.333), hits (TEN) and steals (THREE)
  • Felix seems to have no residual issues with the groin, decent outing yesterday
  • Kuma starting out well (despite too many walks) and his lack of a W on Sunday was not his fault

the negatives thus far:

  • until today, the bats were cold as ice
  • the bullpen has given up runs in FOUR of the SEVEN games so far

Time for the boys to head home, time to stack up some WINS!!!

See you tomorrow @Mariners 🙂

First firsts | opening series vs. the ‘stros

Obviously, the most important first came today . . .

the M’s first WIN ~ finally!

Mariners 4 | Astros 2

Here’s some other Mariners “firsts” from the first series of the 2017 season . . .

though I freely admit, M’s Spring Training was not the only thing on my mind . . .

After many months of house sale/house purchase, moving into a rental and finally, moving into our “forever home” and out of storage ~ all during one of the coldest winters on record and so far, one of the wettest springs ~  I was ready for a little rest, relaxation and sunshine!!!

As it happens, I was with two gals from Seattle (one a non-baseball fan; one who likes, not loves it) and another who is a passionate Indians fan (she hails from Ohio) AND Padre fan (currently resides in SanDiego) so, all this to say I only managed to see ONE Mariners game . . . 😦

Mariners 2 | Padres 12

which I can’t say I gained any sort of reasonable data from (other than, the Pads can hit ’em out when the wind is blowing 😉 )

Just a few observations/predictions . . .

  • MOST IMPROVED: the fact that (at the time of this game) Mike Zu was leading the team in walks, is a very good thing!
  • BEST NEWCOMER: have since heard an interview with Mitch Haniger and (with the notable exception of his love for ‘Bay area sports” – yuk!) he seems as advertised in both talent and like-ability 🙂
  • COMEBACK KID: as I’m sure others were – so excited when I saw Smiley in the WBC and now, he’s down with “soggy” arm – not exactly encouraging words from the Skipper 😦
  • TEAM COMPONENT IMPROVEMENT: speed and great outfield defense may actually be a thing this season
  • UNSUNG HEROS; I’m getting really good vibes about the bullpen (and that was even before we signed old friend Mark Lowe!)
  • ACE IN THE HOLE: and then there’s Felix – seems more motivated than ever before (down season last year when we finally had a little offense) – methinks he’s gonna do good 😉

One thing’s for sure . . .

craziness happens at ST for the previous WS winner ~ the line at the Cubs/Tribe game was insane!

On a non-baseball note . . .

I highly recommend two restaurants: Indigo Crow (Cave Creek) and Dick’s Hideaway (Phoenix)

FOUR MORE DAYS ~ Go M’s!!!
