see-sawing to victory!

Mariners 6 | Astros 5

boxscore

The scoreboard in this one was a see-saw indeed!

0-3, 2-3, 4-5, 5-5, 6-5

with the ‘stros only scoring in the 5th and 7th and the M’s scoring in the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th

ON the MOUND

Kikuchi’s see-saw started off on the upside: 4.1 innings of ZERO hits. Then, a couple of rough innings -5th and 7th- where he was sorta singled to death (including TWO of the 2-run variety). But, even though his final line wasn’t spectacular, good to see him get through SEVEN: 7IP-6H-5R-5ER-3BB-3SO

Way to go, Bully!

Steckenrider & Misiewicz combined for 2 innings of ONE hit, ZERO runs, walks and TWO Ks

AT the PLATE

and, oh that top o’ the order! Mitch + Ty + Kyle = SIX hits, FIVE RBI

First Opening Day that I’ve missed in 20+ years 😦 (2020 doesn’t count)

bittersweet . . .

  • island life makes night game attendance difficult – it’s a trade-off πŸ˜‰
  • baseball is back and there are fans in the stands and there are better days ahead for all

it ain’t over till it’s over . . .

  • rough outing for Marcos – solos shots were killer…
  • going into the bottom of the 8th, the M’s only THREE hits – all doubles (Seager, White, Moore) and their ONE run was a sac-fly by Moore
  • then they scored SIX in the 8th to take the lead by ONE
  • Montero gives up a solo shot to tie it in the top of the 9th and the M’s go in order – to extras we go!
  • so, we get to see the new rule in full effect – starting the inning w/a runner on 2B
  • super catch by Mitch to end the top of the 10th
  • and, whodathunk – Fraley w/a bases loaded walk to WIN!!!

Really looking forward to following this season ~ and attending my first game since 2019 on April 18th!

There will be lots to catch up on lots to learn and re-learn πŸ˜‰

Welcome back baseball, indeed.

The Mariners Home Opener wouldn’t be the same without the “Make-a-Wish” kid to run around the bases ❀ and, bless her heart, she did it in an empty stadium – just Lily and the Moose . . .

ON the MOUND

Welcome back to Seattle, Taijuan!

He followed up Marcos great start w/one of his own and together they threw back-to-back starts w/zero ER’s. Krueger noted on the postgame that SEVEN of his EIGHT strikeouts were via the slider.

AT the PLATE

  • Evan White: first T-Mobile hit was a wall-ball double
  • Kyle Lewis: EIGHT game hitting streak, SIX games w/multi hit streak
  • the “Kyles” both tied w/EIGHT RBI on the season so far

IN the FIELD and ON the BASES

No errors, no DP’s, no SB’s

g19 | four stee-rate :-(

Kikuchi’s late start continues . . .

but, he ends up with decent numbers in his first loss (6IP ~ 5H ~ 3ER ~ 3 BB ~ 5 K)

the ‘pen did no favors (also allowing THREE runs)

K’s a plenty but, O looking up a bit . . .

  • Mitch, leading the AL in extra-base hits, extends his hitting streak to SEVEN
  • Edwin + Omar extend the homer streak to NINETEEN games
  • TWO doubles ~ TWO homers ~ FOUR walks

a tale of fieldingΒ  . . .

After the M’s get to within ONE (via back-to-back jacks from Edwin and Omar) a fabulous catch by Allen robs Ryon in the bottom of the 8th

Then flubby fielding in the top of the 9th gets the Tribe back up by TWO to stay (you don’t want to see it and I don’t want to dwell on it but, they have GOT to address this – soon).

Let’s start fresh tomorrow . . .
