g36 | another roller coaster ride that didn’t end well . . .

Mariners 7 | Angels 9

roller coaster

The first time the M’s have lost two in-a-row since April 19th
First series loss since April 11-13 vs. Texas
figures it would be the (currently) lowly Halos 😦

ON the MOUND
Kuma was hanging in nicely, until the 7th when it all unraveled . . .
a lead-0ff homer, a double, a single and the Halos took the lead and Kuma made an exit
SIX.ONE innings ~ NINE hits ~ FOUR earned runs ~ ONE walk ~ TWO strikeouts

and the pitching definitely went downhill from there . . .
} Joel allowed back-to-back homers, giving the Halos a 6-2 lead
} Mayckol actually was good – ONE.TWO scoreless innings
} Steve, on the other hand, had his second consecutive blown save+loss

AT the PLATE
~ good news: double-digit hits and all the starters but one had at least one hit and the epic 8th inning comeback
~ bad news: only one walk and even though 4/10 w/RISP, soooo many blown opportunities

IN the FIELD
* Leonys’s first E
* nice DP to end the 1st (Kyle to Robbie to Adam)
* Steve C notches a caught stealing

Mariners 1 | Astros 5

split

ON the MOUND
Kuma ~ good and bad . . .
EIGHT K’s in FIVE innings = awesome!
98 pitches and THREE doubles allowed in FIVE innings = not so awesome 😦
FIVE innings ~ SEVEN hits ~ THREE earned runs ~ TWO walks ~ EIGHT strikeouts

Bully . . .
} Mayckol retired the first three batters he faced in relief of Kuma but, then failed to record an out in the 7th allowing a couple singles, a couple stolen bases and a couple runs
} Monty and Steve each recorded a clean sheet inning

AT the PLATE
Not much to report here . . .
~ other than ANOTHER homer (ho-hum) by Robbie 😉
~ only FIVE total hits
~ and, only ONE walk

IN the FIELD
* couple of errors (Steve and Ketel)
* nice DP (Ketel to Robbie to Adam)

cant win em all

ON the MOUND
When Rick and Aaron started mentioning Tai’s velocity was down, it was a bit concerning, apparently for good reason as he was out of the game after TWO innings. Later, we would hear it was because of “neck spasms” (while not great news, better than shoulder/elbow issues) . . . .
TWO innings ~ TWO hits ~ THREE runs ~ ONE earned run ~ ZERO walks ~ ZERO strikeouts

} Mayckol got through his first TWO innings of work (3rd and 4th) unscathed (a couple of walks but, no hits) then came the 5th – THREE singles and a sac-fly netted the ‘stros a couple more runs
} Mike and Steve combined for THREE innings: ONE run ~ THREE walks ~THREE strikeouts

AT the PLATE
~ Only FIVE hits (fewest since the ONE-hit victory over the Royals at home on April 29)
~ TWO went for extra-bases: Kyle’s double and Ketel’s THREE-run triple (accounting for ALL the M’s runs)
~ Kyle and Ketel were also the only batters w/multiple hits

IN the FIELD
* Ketel had a throwing error
* the Astros continued their stellar DEE show

bull pen

ON the MOUND
We knew going into the game, it would be a bullpen day . . .
} Tony Zych started things off well, going TWO.TWO giving up THREE hits but NO runs or walks and FOUR strikeouts
} Mayckol Guaipe did not fair so well , giving up TWO runs on THREE hits and ONE walk
} Logan Kensing gave up ONE run and was only able to retire ONE batter
} Ron Rasmussen retired the only batter he faced via a strikeout
} JC Ramirez had the roughest night of all allowing THREE runs on TWO hits and a walk
} Joe and Dave each posted a scoreless inning
} Danny lasted TWO full and allowed ONE run on THREE hits and posted THREE strikeouts

AT the PLATE
TWELVE total hits but, only TWO for extra-bases . . .
~ both homers as Kyle (26th) and Nellie (44th) go back-to-back in the 5th (both career highs!)
~ Ketel had TWO hits and Jesus S had THREE! (first career THREE hit game)

IN the FIELD
not a terrific night in the field FIVE total errors (FOUR by the ‘stros)

ON the MOUND
Roenis through a ton of pitches but, kept ’em in it giving up only TWO solo shots . . .
SIX innings ~ THREE hits ~ TWO earned runs ~ TWO walks ~ FIVE strikeouts

} Danny allowed a solo shot in the 7th and took the loss
} Tony, Joe and Mayckol combined for TWO scoreless

AT the PLATE
Ketel hit his FIRST Safeco Field homer (second total) but, other than that milestone, not much to see here . . .
only FOUR total hits (Ketel’s homer the only one for extra bases)

IN the FIELD
* TWO DPs, including this unassisted one from LoMo
