g77-78 | split with Pit . . .

Mariners 5 | Pirates 2

Mariners 1 | Pirates 8

Thankfully, I attended the win and it was a beautiful night out for baseball!

Started in the upper deck . . .Ā

Stayed till sunset . . .

IMG_5727

then ventured down . . .Ā

Kuma was the old Kuma . . .
SIX.TWO innints ~ SIX hits ~ TWO earned runs ~ ONE walk ~ FOUR strikeouts

Edwin and Steve took it the rest of the way . . .
allowing only combined hit. Steve recorded his EIGHTEENTH save, preserving Kuma’s SEVENTH victory.

The bats went batty!

  • TWELVE hits including TWO doubles (Ketel & Kyle) & a MONSTER 2-shot by Nellie
  • each starter except Guti and Chris had at least ONE hit
  • Guti had ONE of only TWO walks and scored
  • Robbie and Kyle each had THREE hits

Nice plays in the field . . .
Despite an error by Dae-Ho, TWO double plays and a nice OF assist from Leonys

Mariners Win!!!

And, we won’t talk about the next night 😦

g75| lookie here, a series win!

Mariners 5 | Cardinals 4

Home stand off to a good start, baby steps . . .

baby steps

ON the MOUND
Nathan retired EIGHT straight to start the game . . .
then allowed a run w/TWO out in the 3rd and a THREE-run shot in the 5th (he just can’t seem to get over that 5th inning hump) but, tonight it was enough for the W . . .
FIVE innings ~ FOUR hits ~ FOUR earned runs ~ TWO walks ~ THREE strikeouts

AT the PLATE
TEN hits ~ all singles ~ FOUR walks
~ Leonys, Robbie and Adam all with multiple hits
~ Dae-Ho w/TWO RBI
~ Nellie, Kyle and Adam each w/ONE

IN the FIELD

Kyle again flashing the leather . . .

Mariners 7 | Tigers 8 (in 12)

Mariners 2 | Tigers 4

Mariners 1 | Tigers 5

Mariners 4 | Tigers 5 (in 10)

the story of this series was gettin’ ’em on, not gettin’ ’em in when it really counted . . .
FIVE fer THIRTY-THREE w/RISP 😦

and, to add insult to Ā injury . . .
So, Adrian Sampson, called up to replace Wade Miley (who went on the DL earlier this month) didn’t get to make his second major leagues start, he experienced issues in his warm up in Detroit and now, is scheduled for elbow surgery 😦

tweets of the series . . .

g69 | oh, those one-run losses . . .

soooo, close . . .Ā

this close

Mariners 1 | Red Sox 2

ON the MOUND
Good news: Tai’s first ever start in Fenway was great while it lasted
Bad news: lifted after only 88 pitches when the foot strain flared up again
FIVE innings ~ SIX hits ~ ZERO runs ~ ONE walk ~ THREE strikeouts

Bully . . .
} Vidal gave up a couple of singles and the tying run in the 6th
} Edwin gave up the ultimate winning run (solo shot to Betts) in the 7th
} Nick allowed a hit and a walk but, no runs – all too little, too late 😦

AT the PLATE
~ Only EIGHT total hits (and Guti’s solo shot the only one for extra-bases)
~ ZERO walks and TEN strikeouts – typically not a recipe for success
~ tip o’ the cap to Mr. Price

IN the FIELD
* a nice DP to get Ortiz w/TWO on to end the 3rd
* Nice throw by Chris to nail Betts (for the first time this season
* Ketel with a low liner snare with the bases loaded to end the 6th

tweets of the game . . .Ā

g68 |all things considered, the rook showed promise

Mariners 2 | Red Sox 6

rookie

ON the MOUND
‘t was a pretty tall order for local talent, Adrian Sampson’s major league debut . . .Ā
and, it started out well,Ā working out of THREE-single trouble in the 1st, a lead-off walk in the 2nd, getting his first strikeout (and his first clean inning) in the 3rd but, then allowing a couple of homers: a solo shot in the 4th and killer THREE-run shot in the 5th
Live and Learn.
FOUR.TWO innings ~ EIGHT hits ~ FOUR earned runs ~ ONE walk ~ TWO strikeouts

Monty goes THREE.ONE (his longest of the season – maybe stretching him out to start) and gets THREE K’s but, allows another TWO runs.

At least the rest of the pen should be fresh . . .

AT the PLATE
Promising start with the bases-loaded and no outs in the 1st Ā . . .
but, when they only came away w/ONE, even this rosy one was discouraged.
Then a nice solo shot by Adam to take a TWO-nothing lead I was back to encouraged.
But, that would be that . . . such is the ebb and flow of the game and the season.

IN the FIELD
TWO more DP’s but, another (ELEVENTH) error for Ketel

63 | gap widens in ALW . . .

Mariners 4 | Rangers 6

ON the MOUND
Definitely not Wade’s best effort . . .
He was able to work around lead-off walks in the first TWO innings and posted a clean sheet in the 3rd but, then came a rough 4th
FIVE innings ~ FOUR hits ~ THREE earned runs ~ THREE walks ~ SIX strikeouts

Wade wasn’t alone in a bad day . . .
Steve gave up THREE runs without recording ONE out (though TWO were inherited runners that Vidal allowed to score). Nick had a clean 9th but, too little, too late.

AT the PLATE
* BAD news:  only TWO of the NINE total hits were for extra bases
* GOOD news:  they were from the M&M guys – nice to see Leonys (homer) and Ketel (double) picking up where they left off before their DL stints

* CRAZY news: Robbie getting thrown out  at 2B during a TWO out rally to end the game

tweets of the game . . .

Sadly, though baseball provided a bit of a distraction, there was still the horrific news of the Orlando massacre 😦

Honor and peace to those who lost their lives, comfort and strength to those who lost loved ones, thoughtful guidence to our leaders . . .

g62 | 3 solo shots, one heartbreaker . . .

Mariners 1 | Rangers 2

THREE total runs, all off solo shots – the first gave the M’s the lead, the second tied it, the third sealed the deal for the Rangers . . .

heartbreak

ON the MOUND
The silver lining was another solid start by James . . .
SIX.ONE innings ~ SIX hits (all singles ) ~ ZERO runs ~ TWO walks ~ SIX strikeouts

} Edwin and Joaquin kept the scoreless streak going and so did Steve until TWO outs in the 9th when Prince jacked one to tie it.

} Monty worked around a lead-off walk in the 10th, gave up a solo shot to lead off the 11th

AT the PLATE
Only SIX total hits w/Adam’s solo shot and Steve’s double the only for extra bases and only ONE walk

IN the FIELD
* TWO DP’s turned and a couple of nice plays by Marte at short that we missed when he was on the DL

tweets of the game . . .

g57-60 | splittin’ w/the Tribe

Three outta four would have been great but, we’ll take a split . . .

split1

g57Ā Mariners 1 | Indians 3Ā Woe is sloppy play, wasting a stellar pitching effort

ON the MOUND
~ James threw WAY too many pitches for SIX innings but, certainly provided a bit of excitement with the TEN strikeouts, several hitting TRIPLE DIGITS . . .
~ Edwin Diaz, making his major league debut, (out of the pen) threw some GAS of his own – a clean inning w/his first ML strikeout
~Then Monty went TWO scoreless w/THREE strikeouts

AT the PLATE
Why is it that when the pitching FINALLY comes around, the hitting goes south?!?

IN the FIELD
And, once again, TWO errors, hurt a stellar start

g58Ā Mariners 7 | Indians 1Ā Lookie here! They CAN pitch and hit in the same game!

ON the MOUND
Sans beard becomes you, Wade šŸ™‚
SEVEN innings ~ FOUR hits ~ TWOĀ ~ ZERO runs ~ THREE strikeouts

} Joaquin allowed a solo shot in his inning, Steve posted a clean inning of ‘non-close’ work

AT the PLATE
~ hitters 2-3-4 (Seth, Robbie, Nellie) posted 6/11 w/FOUR runs, THREE RBI and ONE walk
~ hitters 7-8-9 (Adam, Steve, Shawn) posted 5/10 w/TWO runs, FOUR RBI and TWO walks
~ Nellie w/TWO homers, Shawn w/a TRIPLE

IN the FIELD
* Steve w/a passed ball
* Nice ’round the horn DP (Kyle-Cano-Lee)

g59Ā Mariners 5 | Indians 0Ā  Tai the terrific, Chris the conqueror šŸ™‚

ON the MOUND
Tai not only got back on track, he was steam-rollin’ . . .
EIGHT innings ~ THREE hits ~ ZERO runs ~ ZERO walks ~ ELEVEN strikeouts

} Nick added another scoreless innings and TWO more K’s

AT the PLATE
Have a day, Chris!
TWO homers for THREE RBI and then an RBI double for good measure
~ Kyle with the other RBI on a ground out
~ Ketel picks up where he left-off from the DL w/TWO hits and TWO runs scored

IN the FIELD
catch of the season, so far, for Guti . . .

g60Ā Mariners 3 | Indians 5Ā  Oh, those base on balls . . .Ā

ON the MOUND
Nathan’s issue was his pitch count from WAY too many walks (FIVE)

Monty was good again but, Edwin gave up his first run and Joaquin was the real nail in the coffin, allowing a 2-run shot and then an UNearned run on his own error 😦

AT the PLATE
THIRTEEN hits (including TWO doubles and THREE homers) should net a LOT more than THREE runs. As it turns out, the THREE runs were all off solo shots (TWO by Robbie, ONE by Adam)

tweets of the series . . .Ā

g44-46 | every which way but loose . . .

Ho-Hum, just another series victory!

winning

g44Ā Mariners 0 | Athletics 5
Enough hits (nine) but all singles and TWO errors by Taylor (who was brought up when Marte was placed on the DL)

g45Ā Mariners 6 | Athletics 5
Still need Nate to go longer but, Monty was AWESOME in relief! As for the bats . . .the hot stay hot and the late innings stay blistering! Robbie w/a TWO run shot in the 8th to bring the M’s to within ONE, Leonys with a TWO run shot to WIN it in the 9th

g46Ā Mariners 13 | Athletics 3
What series win would be complete without a blowout? Of course, then this is the time we get SEVEN strong from the starter (Kuma) but, we’ll take it (good to see Lind’s bat heating up)
