g83-85 | home sweepers to road sweepees

Mariners 1 | Astros 2
yet another ONE-run loss, Wade M threw a nice quality+ start but, McCullers all but shut down the M’s bat and oh, the wasted chances (lead-off triple in the first that doesn’t score and bases-loaded with no outs = no runs)

Mariners 2 | Astros 5
Tai had to come out of the game due to his previous foot injury, Monty filled in great but, bats were fairly non-existance

Mariners 8 | Astros 9
heart-breaker, down early, tied middle then a roller coaster till the bitter end

tweets of the series . . .

63 | gap widens in ALW . . .

Mariners 4 | Rangers 6

Definitely not Wade’s best effort . . .
He was able to work around lead-off walks in the first TWO innings and posted a clean sheet in the 3rd but, then came a rough 4th
FIVE innings ~ FOUR hits ~ THREE earned runs ~ THREE walks ~ SIX strikeouts

Wade wasn’t alone in a bad day . . .
Steve gave up THREE runs without recording ONE out (though TWO were inherited runners that Vidal allowed to score). Nick had a clean 9th but, too little, too late.

* BAD news:  only TWO of the NINE total hits were for extra bases
* GOOD news:  they were from the M&M guys – nice to see Leonys (homer) and Ketel (double) picking up where they left off before their DL stints

* CRAZY news: Robbie getting thrown out  at 2B during a TWO out rally to end the game

tweets of the game . . .

Sadly, though baseball provided a bit of a distraction, there was still the horrific news of the Orlando massacre 😦

Honor and peace to those who lost their lives, comfort and strength to those who lost loved ones, thoughtful guidence to our leaders . . .

g57-60 | splittin’ w/the Tribe

Three outta four would have been great but, we’ll take a split . . .

g57 Mariners 1 | Indians 3 Woe is sloppy play, wasting a stellar pitching effort

~ James threw WAY too many pitches for SIX innings but, certainly provided a bit of excitement with the TEN strikeouts, several hitting TRIPLE DIGITS . . .
~ Edwin Diaz, making his major league debut, (out of the pen) threw some GAS of his own – a clean inning w/his first ML strikeout
~Then Monty went TWO scoreless w/THREE strikeouts

Why is it that when the pitching FINALLY comes around, the hitting goes south?!?

And, once again, TWO errors, hurt a stellar start

g58 Mariners 7 | Indians 1 Lookie here! They CAN pitch and hit in the same game!

Sans beard becomes you, Wade 🙂
SEVEN innings ~ FOUR hits ~ TWO ~ ZERO runs ~ THREE strikeouts

} Joaquin allowed a solo shot in his inning, Steve posted a clean inning of ‘non-close’ work

~ hitters 2-3-4 (Seth, Robbie, Nellie) posted 6/11 w/FOUR runs, THREE RBI and ONE walk
~ hitters 7-8-9 (Adam, Steve, Shawn) posted 5/10 w/TWO runs, FOUR RBI and TWO walks
~ Nellie w/TWO homers, Shawn w/a TRIPLE

* Steve w/a passed ball
* Nice ’round the horn DP (Kyle-Cano-Lee)

g59 Mariners 5 | Indians 0  Tai the terrific, Chris the conqueror 🙂

Tai not only got back on track, he was steam-rollin’ . . .
EIGHT innings ~ THREE hits ~ ZERO runs ~ ZERO walks ~ ELEVEN strikeouts

} Nick added another scoreless innings and TWO more K’s

Have a day, Chris!
TWO homers for THREE RBI and then an RBI double for good measure
~ Kyle with the other RBI on a ground out
~ Ketel picks up where he left-off from the DL w/TWO hits and TWO runs scored

catch of the season, so far, for Guti . . .

g60 Mariners 3 | Indians 5  Oh, those base on balls . . .

Nathan’s issue was his pitch count from WAY too many walks (FIVE)

Monty was good again but, Edwin gave up his first run and Joaquin was the real nail in the coffin, allowing a 2-run shot and then an UNearned run on his own error 😦

THIRTEEN hits (including TWO doubles and THREE homers) should net a LOT more than THREE runs. As it turns out, the THREE runs were all off solo shots (TWO by Robbie, ONE by Adam)

g52-53 | M’s take the ‘Vedder Cup’ in crazy fashion . . .

g52 Mariners 6 | Padres 14

Scoring SIX runs should by indicative of a win but, unfortunately, James (subbing for Felix who’s now on the DL with a calf strain) had a rough 2016 debut. He didn’t even survive the 4th and made a costly error that contributed to a SIX run 1st inning for the Padres.

The bullpen wasn’t much help – Joel and Steve each allowed FOUR hits and THREE runs! (and, Joel found himself DFA’d after the game)

The good news was: Kyle, Robbie, Nellie and Guti all stayed HOT, HOT, HOT (even Luis had a couple of hits!)

g53 Mariners 16 | Padres 13

You think the score is crazy? Wait till you hear how they got there!!!

THE biggest come-back in Mariners organization HISTORY!

Down 12-2 in the going into the 6th, the M’s proceeded to score FIVE in the 6th and NINE in the 7th to seal what would become one of the craziest wins ever (luckily, I got home just as the 7th inning started so, got to witness history, at least via TV). Obviously, not a lot of pitching on either side (Miley w/his worst M’s start) but, the ‘new guy’, Cody Martin gets the victory for the M’s

I’ll let some tweets tell the story . . .

g47-49 | let’s just move along . . .

ugh. swept aside AGAIN by another lessor team . . .

seems the M’s are playing to their competition of late.

g47 Mariners 2 | Twins 7
another bad night for Felix

g48 Mariners 5 | Twins 6
M’s had the bases loaded TWICE with only ONE run scored (via a DP – the other was THREE pop-ups in-a-row – can you spell F-R-U-S-T-R-A-T-I-O-N?!?) and, a whacky end to the game – after Guti homered in the 8th to bring it within one, he was up again w/runners at the corners and ONE out – both were thrown out after the catcher dropped and recovered a ball 😦

g49 Mariners 5 | Twins 5
another rough day for Tai, Guti did his part again, homering in the bottom of the 9th to bring them within ONE

tweets of the series . . .

and, all was NOT lost, as I got to attend Saturday evening’s game with these lovely ladies . . . IMG_5532

g33 | notchin’ another series win!

Mariners 6 | Rays 4

M’s jumped out to an early lead and added on significantly. The Rays chipped away and got close but, the home town nine hung in there 🙂

Wade was j u s t shy of a QS . . .
SIX innings ~ FOUR hits ~ FOUR earned runs ~ ONE walk ~ SIX strikeouts

The Bully was its usual stellar self . . .
with Nick, Vidal, Joel and Steve combining for THREE scoreless innings (and, Steve recorded his ELEVENTH save – a FOUR out variety!)

~ Every starter but one (Luis) had at least ONE hit
~ Nice to see another couple homers (Guti’s first, DeaHo’s fifth)
~ and even better that there were BASERUNNERS when they occurred

and they say Nellie can’t play the field . . .

tweets of the game . . .

g28 |rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ . . .

Mariners 6 | Astros 3

comeback kids

Really nice to see our hometown nine with both the supreme confidence and the true ability to come back (multiple times) . . .
not something we are accustomed to but, quickly becoming something we expect.

Well, ‘t was no complete game but, a more than decent outing for Wade against (despite their record) a more than decent line up (a hard luck no decision)…
SIX innings ~ FIVE hits ~ TWO earned runs ~ TWO walks ~ FIVE strikeouts

Bully . . .
} Joel didn’t fair too well – only retired ONE of the THREE batters he faced
} Nick allowed an inherited runner to score, walked ONE and allowed ONE hit (a lead off double in the 8th) but, he got a ton of help from his defense (out at home, fly ball out, a double play)
} Steve allowed a double in the 9th but, recorded THREE fly outs to earn his NINTH save

Top of the order AND the Bottom of the order coming through . . .
~ 1,2,3,8,9 = TEN hits, SIX rbi, SIX runs scored
~ a rare “no homer” night
~ TWELVE total hits w/only TWO extra base hits (Robbie’s double, Kyle’s triple)

the ‘stros have a pretty great defense but, the M’s were hanging with them . . .
* a nice OF assist (Martin, Ketel, Chris) in the 8th for the out at home
* TWO double-play

tweets of the game . . .

g22-24 | series win vs. World Champs

Now THAT’s the way to tackle a home stand 🙂

~ both series featured one-run wins, blowout wins and close losses
~ SIX games, TWO series, FOUR wins, TWO series wins (FIFTH series win in-a-row!)

g22 Mariners 1 | Royals 0

  • Felix spins a gem (and gets help from Nick on the last out of the 8th)
  • Seth provides the only run (solo shot in the 6th) the M’s would need
  • Leonys keeps the Royals off the board, leaving a mark on the CF wall
  • Steve saves the day

g23 Mariners 6 | Royals 0

  • the night belonged to Wade ~ first career complete game shutout!
  • Seth w/another homer, Kyle w/ a THREE-run shot (both in the 1st)
  • EIGHT walks ~ THREE scored
  • more great DEE

g24 Mariners 1 | Royals 4

  • the Royals seemed to single Tai to death (only one extra base hit, a double that scored) and no walks but, just too many pitches (96) to get past the 5th
  • the M’s only had ONE extra base hit the entire game but, good that it was Kyle
  • no sweep but, headed to Oakland riding the FIVE series wins 🙂

g16-18 | yes, you guessed it, another road series win!
