yet another ONE-run loss, Wade M threw a nice quality+ start but, McCullers all but shut down the M’s bat and oh, the wasted chances (lead-off triple in the first that doesn’t score and bases-loaded with no outs = no runs)

Tai had to come out of the game due to his previous foot injury, Monty filled in great but, bats were fairly non-existance

Definitely not Wade’s best effort . . .
He was able to work around lead-off walks in the first TWO innings and posted a clean sheet in the 3rd but, then came a rough 4th
FIVE innings ~ FOUR hits ~ THREE earned runs ~ THREE walks ~ SIX strikeouts
Wade wasn’t alone in a bad day . . .
Steve gave up THREE runs without recording ONE out (though TWO were inherited runners that Vidal allowed to score). Nick had a clean 9th but, too little, too late.

* BAD news: only TWO of the NINE total hits were for extra bases
* GOOD news: they were from the M&M guys – nice to see Leonys (homer) and Ketel (double) picking up where they left off before their DL stints
* CRAZY news: Robbie getting thrown out at 2B during a TWO out rally to end the game

~ Edwin Diaz, making his major league debut, (out of the pen) threw some GAS of his own – a clean inning w/his first ML strikeout
~Then Monty went TWO scoreless w/THREE strikeouts

THIRTEEN hits (including TWO doubles and THREE homers) should net a LOT more than THREE runs. As it turns out, the THREE runs were all off solo shots (TWO by Robbie, ONE by Adam)

g52-53 | M’s take the ‘Vedder Cup’ in crazy fashion . . .
Scoring SIX runs should by indicative of a win but, unfortunately, James (subbing for Felix who’s now on the DL with a calf strain) had a rough 2016 debut. He didn’t even survive the 4th and made a costly error that contributed to a SIX run 1st inning for the Padres.
The bullpen wasn’t much help – Joel and Steve each allowed FOUR hits and THREE runs! (and, Joel found himself DFA’d after the game)
The good news was: Kyle, Robbie, Nellie and Guti all stayed HOT, HOT, HOT (even Luis had a couple of hits!)

THE biggest come-back in Mariners organization HISTORY!
Down 12-2 in the going into the 6th, the M’s proceeded to score FIVE in the 6th and NINE in the 7th to seal what would become one of the craziest wins ever (luckily, I got home just as the 7th inning started so, got to witness history, at least via TV). Obviously, not a lot of pitching on either side (Miley w/his worst M’s start) but, the ‘new guy’, Cody Martin gets the victory for the M’s

M’s had the bases loaded TWICE with only ONE run scored (via a DP – the other was THREE pop-ups in-a-row – can you spell F-R-U-S-T-R-A-T-I-O-N?!?) and, a whacky end to the game – after Guti homered in the 8th to bring it within one, he was up again w/runners at the corners and ONE out – both were thrown out after the catcher dropped and recovered a ball 😦

} Steve allowed a double in the 9th but, recorded THREE fly outs to earn his NINTH save

- Felix spins a gem (and gets help from Nick on the last out of the 8th)
- Seth provides the only run (solo shot in the 6th) the M’s would need
- Leonys keeps the Royals off the board, leaving a mark on the CF wall
- Steve saves the day
- the night belonged to Wade ~ first career complete game shutout!
- Seth w/another homer, Kyle w/ a THREE-run shot (both in the 1st)

- the Royals seemed to single Tai to death (only one extra base hit, a double that scored) and no walks but, just too many pitches (96) to get past the 5th
- the M’s only had ONE extra base hit the entire game but, good that it was Kyle
- no sweep but, headed to Oakland riding the FIVE series wins 🙂
