Ketel hit his FIRST Safeco Field homer (second total) but, other than that milestone, not much to see here . . .

the pen (and when I say ‘pen, I’m talking nearly the ENTIRE bullpen) was stellar then bad then so-so, then stellar again . . .
} Jose went ONE.TWO hitless, scoreless (and ultimately would get the WIN)
} Tony and Mayckol combined for THREE innings and THREE runs
} Logan, Vidal, Carson and Tom combined for THREE innings w/FOUR hits and ZERO runs (Tom earned his NINTH save)

Quality start for Tai . . .

‘pen work . . . 
} Carson struck out the only man he faced to end the 7th
} Logan allowed a double and a pop up to the only TWO batters he faced
} Bartender to the rescue! A fly out and a strike out to end the 8th and then in the 9th . . .
a lead-off double but then 1-2-3 for his EIGHTH save (and, via the fluke of the “wins calculation”, Carson, facing ONE batter gets his SECOND win)

AT the PLATE
THIRTEEN hits should bode well and, it DID!
~ THREE doubles (Ketel, Guti, Kyle)
~ ONE homer (LoMo with a THREE-run shot in the 9th!)
~ And, hey look! The new, local kid (Shawn, just called up) with THREE hits, ONE walk, ONE run and TWO RBI!

Not Roenis’ best effort (too many balls and too many pitches) but, he hung in  . . .
FIVE.ONE innings ~ FIVE hits ~ FOUR runs ~ FOUR walks ~ FOUR strikeouts

on the other hand, NICE bullpen tonight!
Mayckol gave up a couple of hits and a run but, the rest of the pen (Logan, Carson and Tom) combined for TWO hits ZERO runs and ZERO walks with FOUR strikeouts. Bartender earned his SEVENTH save and Logan is FIRST win (since 2009)

AT the PLATE
NINE total hits, THREE for extra-bases . . .
~ Guti, Mark and LoMo w/homers (Mark and LoMo’s were both TWO-run shots, LoMo’s a PH GW!)
~ Seth with a triple
~ Kyle and John (!) each with a stolen base, Robbie got caught
~ Guti on fire! besides the homer he walked and scored in Brad’s single and singled and scored on Mark’s homer

IN the FIELD
Not such a stellar defensive effort . . .
* John and Brad each with throwing errors
* No DPs turned but, TWO turned agains them

Can’t say it was Kuma’s most efficient outing but, it was effective . . .
He threw 118 pitches (most for an M’s starter this season) 85 for strikes (the Rangers hit foul after foul)
SEVEN innings ~ SIX hits ~ THREE runs/earned runs ~ ZERO walks ~ SIX strikeouts

} Joe and Tom combined for a scoreless 8th (Tom struck out the only batter he faced)
} HUGE confidence builder for Carson tonight – lead-off single but then , , . for his ELEVENTH save

AT the PLATE
Every starter had at least ONE hit – TEN total
~ Robbie and Jesus M both with TWO hits
~ the M’s first run came when LoMo led off w/ a double, advanced to 3B via Ketel’s single and scored on on a balk
~ with his 32nd homer, Nellie extended his hitting streak to SEVENTEEN
~ THREE homers total: Mark in the 5th and Nellie and Robbie went back-to-back in the 6th

IN the FIELD
* No DP’s turned (one turned against them)
* The left field dive (that netted the Rangers their first TWO runs) wasn’t a good look for Mark . . .

* Seager’s spin and throw and Joe’s pick-off were nice/timely

Coming into this game, The Bear hadn’t allowed a run to the Twins in 33+ innings . . . 
he added another EIGHT and ONE THIRD innings before giving up a solo shot w/ONE out in the 9th
Sucks that Kuma didn’t get the win but, the team will take W’s any way they can right now!
EIGHT.TWO innings ~ THREE hits ~ ONE run/earned run ~ ONE walk ~ EIGHT strikeouts

Look Ma, an effective, efficient bullpen performance! (that’s EEBP for short 😉 )
} Carson gets a bit of redemption after yesterday’s blown save, striking out the only batter he faced
} Nando wasn’t quite as lights out as yesterday (walked the lead-off batter) but, retired the next THREE in order
} Tommy allowed a lead-off double but then, was able to retire the next THREE in order  and record his second save

AT the PLATE
Not a lot of scoring, by either side, given they BOTH scored their FIRST runs in the 9th on solo shots . . .
~ The M’s homer? Who else? Nellie! (29th)
~ the only other extra base hit – Jesus M’s double
~ LoMo had a pinch-hit RBI single in the top of the 11th

~ AJ added some 11th inning insurance: a TWO-run single
~ How ’bout that Ketel Marte?!? The rookie got his FIRST major league hit, went 3/4 with a run scored and a walk

IN the FIELD
* No DP’s turned (but, TWO turned against them 😦 )
* Kyle with a GREAT diving stop and throw to 1B for the out

* AJ with a NICE catch at the WALL to rob an extra-base hit
* Kuma with a “defensive” defensive move . . . .

ON the MOUND
Felix had a shaky start but, a fabulous finish . . .
He made a very “UN-Felix-like” play in the 1st, fielding a soft ground ball then WAY over-throwing to LoMo at 1B allowing the runner to take 2B. After a ground out and a walk, the Blue Jays scored their first run on a ground out to 1B in which LoMo seemed a bit nonchalant throwing home, hence, the run was unearned due to Felix’s error and LoMo’s uncharacteristic lapse. Then Felix resumed being Felix and, against the most prolific offense in the majors, proceeded to retire TEN in-a-row before allowing a solo shot (to Joey Bats) and finishing up with the following line . . .
SEVEN innings ~ SIX hits ~ TWO runs ~ ONE earned run ~ ONE walk ~ SEVEN strikeouts

Then the steady Eddies took over . . .
Mark and Carson combined for TWO scoreless innings and Carson earned his NINTH save preserving Felix’s TWELF victory

AT the PLATE
There were M’s on base in EVERY inning but the 6th though still only 2-10 w/RISP
~ AJ and Brad were the only ones w/o a hit (Brad did walk once but, also had a base-running gaffe, getting picked off 3B)
~ Nellie was THREE for THREE w/a run scored
~ Mark had ONE hit – but it was a biggie – a TWO-run shot to take the lead for good in the 4th
~ Robbie continues to stay hot in July – only ONE hit but, we’ll take a TWO-run triple any day

IN the FIELD
No DP’s on either side and some shakiness on the M’s part . . .
* the afore mentioned flub by Felix
* the afore mentioned lapse by LoMo
* Seth had a catch of a long fly ball at the wall that was nothing spectacular but, heart-stopping in the sense that it really looked (at least to me) that it was going out (hence my tweet #NoSweatSeth)

He pitched well, all things considered, only really frustration was the walk that ended up scoring on the double in the 2nd
SEVEN runs ~ FOUR hits ~ THREE runs/earned runs ~ TWO walks ~ TWO strikeouts

} Unfortunately, our typical “steady Eddie” (Mark) had an EXTREMELY rare breakdown . . .
on one pitch, he allowed his FIRST homer of the season (to that pesky Kinsler), blew the save lost the game and nearly doubled his ERA (from .62 to 1.20).

That said, as noted below, methinks the top of the order is WAY more to blame than the back of the bullpen in this latest heartbreaker 😦

AT the PLATE
Only EIGHT total hits and 3/11 w/RISP. . .
~ bad news: top of the order = 0/14
~ good news: middle of the order = 5/12 w/THREE runs scored and TWO SB (AJ)
~ better news: bottom of the order = 3/9 w/THREE runs driven in
~ GREAT news: ZU with a TWO-run double, an RBI single, a walk and NO strikeouts 🙂
