ON the MOUND
Kuma, being “the Bear” we all know and love . . .
He was cruisin’ but, then gave up a homer and a single in the 7th so was pulled after only 79 pitches – but, gave them the chance to win and earn his well deserved 7th victory . . .
SIX.ONE innings ~ FIVE hits ~ ONE run ~ ONE walk ~ THREE strikeouts

the bully bent but did not break . . .
} Vidal allowed a hit to the only batter he faced and Tony had to get the somewhat elusive remaining TWO outs of the 7th
} Logan gave up the only other A’s run and got TWO outs in the the 8th and The Bartender continued his nice run, by earning a FIVE out save (his TENTH)

AT the PLATE
Only EIGHT total runs (and only ONE for extra bases – Mark’s double) but . . .
singles, stolen bases, wild pitches and sac flys were enough
(the base-running, despite Ketel’s SB, was more than questionable 😦 )

IN the FIELD
* No DP’s but ONE turned against them
* Brad with a leaping snare of a smash liner
* Sean with a great running catch

Felix more than fine with a little extra rest . . .
EIGHT innings ~ SIX hits ~ THREE runs/earned runs ~ ZERO walks ~ NINE strikeouts

} Joe allows a hit but then induces a nice DP and then a pop-up to end the game and preserve Felix’s SIXTEENTH win

AT the PLATE
Sean just keeps on truckin’ . . . 
TWO for TWO (including his FIRST big league homer!) with TWO runs scored, an RBI and TWO walks

~ Ketel, Kyle, Seth and Brad were the others with multi-hit games
~ LoMo only had ONE hit but, it was a biggie – a TWO-run shot (also had another RBI)

IN the FIELD
* TWO double-plays
* Ketel continues to shine at SS

Well, not exactly what you drew up for Edgar . . .

the pen (and when I say ‘pen, I’m talking nearly the ENTIRE bullpen) was stellar then bad then so-so, then stellar again . . .
} Jose went ONE.TWO hitless, scoreless (and ultimately would get the WIN)
} Tony and Mayckol combined for THREE innings and THREE runs
} Logan, Vidal, Carson and Tom combined for THREE innings w/FOUR hits and ZERO runs (Tom earned his NINTH save)

AT the PLATE
THIRTEEN hits, SIX for extra-bases . . . not too shabby!
~ Kyle, Stefen and LoMo all with multi-hit, multi-RBI nights
~ Ketel, Kyle, Stefen all with multi-hit. multi-run nights
~ Brad with only ONE hit but THREE RBI

* John with a nice caught stealing of Burns – TWICE!

ON the MOUND
Kuma, in his first start at Safeco since the NoNo, was cruising along . . .
48 pitches, ONE hit and ZERO runs through the first FOUR and then came the 5th with 29 pitches and SEVEN runs – supposedly all earned as there were no errors but, there was certainly some sloppy, silly play that didn’t help 😦
FOUR.TWO innings ~ SEVEN hits ~ SEVEN runs ~ ONE walk ~ FOUR strikeouts

and then the pen . . .
} Edgar pitched ONE.ONE allowing only a hit and no runs
} Rob allowed a couple of hits and, unfortunately, an insurance run for the A’s
} Roenis (just recalled from AAA) appeared in his very first relief stint, allowed a walk but no runs
} Dave benefitted from a nifty line-out DP but then gave up THREE in the 9th

AT the PLATE
A barrage in the 3rd was pretty exciting . . .
~ Ketel doubled
~ Nellie HBP (kinda scary, hopefully just a bruised elbow)
~ RBI single by Robbie
~ Guti with a 3-run jack
~ a solo shot by Mark

IN the FIELD
* Nifty DP turned in the top of the 9th, back handed catch of a liner by Robbie and firing to Jesus to double up the runner
* Mark with a throwing error that led to a run
* Ironically, Mark made TWO of the THREE outs i the 5th but, had he properly fielded the first ball in the 5th, the A’s might not have any runs in that inning – instead, they scored FIVE.

Winning Road Trips are Nice!
Now, her’s to carrying some momentum home and going on a run vs. Tiggers and Halos!

ON the MOUND
Monty took his run of scoreless innings to TWENTY –  a l m o s t  tied a Mariners rookie record . . .
– before allowing a solo shot to Fuld but, that would be all she wrote for the A’s
– first of his SEVEN career starts that he didn’t go at least SIX – but, he gets his 4th WIN
FIVE.TWO innings ~ SIX hits ~ ONE earned run ~ ONE walk ~ TWO strikeouts

} How spectacular has Mark Lowe been?!?!
Another ONE.ONE innings of scoreless ball w/ONE hit, TWO strikeouts
} Joe with a 1-2-3 inning (helped immensely by his DEE)
} Nando with his SIXTEENTH arrow preserved Mike’s FOURTH victory

AT the PLATE
Only FIVE total hits but, all it took was ONE single by Seth . . .
~ with Robbie and Nellie aboard (via HBP and the M’s only extra-base hit, a double) and the M’s took the lead for good!

IN the FIELD
THREE HUGE double-plays . . .
* Kyle to Robbie to LoMo
* Brad to LoMo
* Robbie to LoMo
TWO sparkling catches in the 8th
* Zu pop-up concentration in foul ground
* AJ a sliding grab on a bloop to CF

In the past FIVE games the M’s have scored 21 runs but, have also been shut out TWICE

ON the MOUND
Despite the low run total, seemed like Felix was in trouble ALL day long . . .
The A’s only had ONE extra-base hit against Felix (and TWO walks) but, he was continually pitching OUT of a jamb. Runners on in every inning but the 3rd. Speaks to his kingly grit that they were only able to score upon him TWICE, once in the 1st and once in the 7th. But, Felix takes his first loss in Oakland since September 2008
SEVEN innings ~ TEN hits ~ TWO earned runs ~ TWO walks ~ SIX strikeouts 

} David Rollins (rule 5 draft player) just activated from suspension made his major league debut count: 1-2-3 8th inning (strikeout, fly out, pop-up)

AT the PLATE
Only SIX total hits and only ONE for extra-bases (AJ’s double in the 1st) and, obviously, ZERO RBI/runs scored 😦

IN the FIELD
* Nice play in the 1st to get Vogt at the plate, no DP’s (but ONE turned against them)
* Considering the A’s have the most errors in the majors, sure seemed like they save a LOT of runs w/their defense today

JA with a slow, dicey start and a great finish . . .
– a 5-4-3 DP to get out of the 1st
– 2nd not so lucky as the A’s scored THREE on a single, a double and a ground out
– but then, JA holds them scoreless the rest of his way
SIX innings ~ EIGHT hits ~ THREE earned runs ~ ZERO walks ~ FIVE strikeouts

} Mark and Charlie each with a hitless/scoreless inning (the 7th and 9th respectively)
} Carson, however, was not so effective: a couple of singles and a double yielded TWO runs (thankfully, he had a LARGE cushion 😉 )

AT the PLATE
Took a while for the bats to get going but then, going, going, gone is what they did!
~ Robbie, Nellie, Kyle and Brad all with multiple hits
~ Every starter but Mark w/at least ONE hit

not ONE, not TWO, not THREE but, FOUR 2-run HOME RUNS!!!!

Roenis had trouble in the 1st giving up TWO runs (on THIRTY-ONE pitches) . . .
But then, so great to see him settle down and retired TWELVE in-a-row before giving up a solo shot in the 5th
Another quality start that definitely gave the team a chance to win, the bats just couldn’t come through
SIX innings ~ THREE hits ~ THREE earned runs ~ ONE walk ~ SEVEN strikeouts

} Tom gave up the fourth run (an RBI triple) and Joe pitched a scoreless 8th

AT the PLATE
Not much to see here . . .
only TWO hits ~ both by Guti (a single and a double) and NO walks

What a great story re: Jesus and Felix . . .
Jesus lost his mom back during Spring Training so, this was his first Mother’s Day without her. He was hoping to play during the weekend to honor her and the team went to Felix to get his input on which game he should catch (Felix’s or JA’s). Felix apparently did not hesitate – he said that Jesus wanted to honor his mom by playing on Mother’s Day so that’s what he was going to do. And, what a nice day he had! A single, a run scored, a great catch of a foul pop-up and catching Felix’s 2000th career K ❤

ON the MOUND
Felix being Felix . . .
he needed FIVE strikeouts for his 2000th career K so, of course, he got SIX 🙂

He wasn’t dominating today but, he did what he needed to do and, let’s face it, his “less than stellar stuff” is better than mosts actual stellar stuff.

the bully does it again! (amazing how a solid performance from the starter carries over to the ‘pen 🙂 )

} Charlie with an efficient and effective 1-2-3 8th inning
} Nando got to shoot his own arrow today (despite making the 9th more interesting than it needed to be, allowing a one-out solo homer) racking up his NINTH save and preserving Felix’s SIXTH victory (first time Felix has been 6-0)

AT the PLATE
The bats couldn’t get much going early (no hits thru THREE and only FIVE total) but, they managed to do   j  u  s  t   enough . . .
~ in the 4th, Rickie walked, Nellie singled (for the first Mariner hit) and then it was contagious: Kyle and Dustin both doubled (Dustin’s was with TWO outs and scored TWO runs!) and the M’s took the lead for keeps.
~ in the 5th they added on after Jesus singled (his first hit of the season), Seth doubled and Robbie hit a sac-fly to score Jesus

IN the FIELD
* once again, no DP’s be either team
* Jesus made a great over-the-railing catch of a foul ball in the 7th
