g126 | ugh – playing down to their competition once again . . .

I’ve been harping on it all since early on and now, 126 games into the season, the pattern is still holding . . .

  • M’s are 29-30 (.492) vs. teams under .500
  • M’s are 39-28 (.582) vs. team at or over .500

Mariners 3 | Phillies 4

Let’s just say James has had better days – MUCH better days . . .
FOUR innings ~ SEVEN hits ~ FOUR runs ~ ONE  earned run ~ TWO walks ~ FIVE strikeouts

the bullpen were their usual stellar self . . .
but, Tom, Joe, Brandon and Danny’s combined scoreless FOUR came too little, too late

Despite out-hitting the Phills TWELVE to TEN w/FOUR extra-base hits . . .
~ doubles by LoMo, Endy and Jesus and a homer by Kendrys
~ the M’s came out on the shortest of ends – another ONE-run loss 😦 (now at 14-23 in ONE run games)

* LoMo and Brad with nice lunging/leaping grabs respectively
* James and Jesus (throwing error and passed ball) with costly muffs

g125 | KKKKKKKKKKKuma!

Mariners 5 | Phillies 2

Kuma . . .

  1. 1.
    most important, powerful, or influential.
“they are now in an even more dominant position in the market”
synonyms: presiding, ruling, governing, controlling, commanding, ascendant, supreme, authoritative

ELEVEN was his number for the night . . .
he struck out ELEVEN ~and~ retired the last ELEVEN batters he faced

EIGHT innings ~ FOUR hits ~ ZERO earned runs/runs ~ ZERO walks ~ ELEVEN strikeouts

The 9th got a little too dicey (but, hey – the BP has been SO lights out, they’re allowed a mulligan or two) in that they combined to give up half as many hits (TWO) twice as many runs (TWO) and ONE more walk (ONE) in their ONE inning than Kuma did in his EIGHT . . .
} Charlie walked the lead-off guy (on his ninth pitch) but, then got TWO quick outs
} Lloyd brought in Yourvis, presumably to get him so work to keep him sharp, alas, it didn’t have the desired result – a single, a wild pitch, a double and a HBP resulted in TWO Phillies runs and a runner on 1B.
} Nando in to record his 36th save (his second of the ONE-out variety)

That’s more like it “bats and wheels” . . .
~ Top Two in the order (AJack and Ack) combined for THREE walks, THREE stolen bases (including a double-steal in the 1st – where they BOTH would score) and they each doubled later in the game
~ Robbie, Kyle and LoMo building a picket fences (each with a hit, a run and an RBI – Robbie also stole a base)
~ Kyle’s hit was his NINETEENTH homer
~ Zu with TWO hits, including a TWO-run single in the 8th, without which, possibly a different outcome
~ FOUR (count ’em FOUR!) stolen bases

* No DP’s turned on either side
* Brad (call him Crazy Legs or call him Make Me Dizzy!) makes a spinning throw in the 3rd – a bit high but, LoMo hauls it in for the out

g124 | too many cheese steaks?

Mariners 1 | Phillies 4

Roenis seemed to be pitching in and out of trouble his entire outing which, no thanks to his unusual lack of control, was one of his shortest of the season. He’d been pitching well since the break (hadn’t given up more than TWO runs and kept his walks under control) but, had SEVERE control issues tonight and, despite only giving up the ONE run, he racked up 90 pitches and as a result, was out after FOUR innings.

FOUR innings ~ THREE hits ~ ONE earned run ~ SIX walks ~ FOUR strikeouts

} Leone’s outing was even worse – he gave up THREE runs in ONE of his TWO innings of work on a double, a walk and a homer
} Tom, Charlie and Nando combined for scoreless frames the rest of the way

Move along, not much to see here . . .
Phills pitching limited the M’s to only SIX hits, only ONE for extra bases – Ack’s RBI double

A double-play by each side and a nice spinning throw from Chris T . . .
