g38-40 | FOUR is the SCORE but, overall, woes at the O’s

Mariners 4 | Orioles 9

  • Tai gave up more hits than Mariners got
  • the bullpen pitched one more inning than Tai but, also gave up one more run
  • TWO double-plays turned but also an error (Nellie) and a PB (Zu)

Mariners 4 | Orioles 2

  • Elias was EXCELLENT: SEVEN.TWO innings ~ SIX hits ~ ONE earned run ~ ZERO walks ~ FOUR strikeouts
  • the bottom of the order did the producing: batters 6-9 w/all FOUR RBI (Justin w/a TWO-run homer)
  • Nando made it a bit interesting in the 9th but, in the end, recorded his TENTH save and Roenis’s FIRST victory

Mariners 4 | Orioles 5 (rain delayed)

  • JA’s roughest outing to date but, had the rain not come, might have been different: he gave up a grand slam in the 1st but, ended up striking out the side in the 2nd but, the rain delay after the top of the 3rd he wasn’t able to get a shot at redemption
  • the bats came back after the delay: TEN total hits but, all singles and only THREE for FIFTEEN w/RISP
  • the BP of Tom, Mark, Joe and Charlie put up THREE.TWO hitless/scoreless innings after the delay (w/SIX strikeouts)
  • enter Lord Farquhar 😦 who gave up TWO hits and the winning run

g32 | goin’ batty for the Vedder Cup!!!!!!

Mariners 11 | Padres 4

going batty

Wow!
Not used to seeing an offensive onslaught like that!
My mantra is: “Chicks did the long ball but, REAL women love leather” but . . .
even I have to admit THAT was FUN 🙂 (especially in person with friends to share it with!)

ON the MOUND
After the 1st inning in which he threw all of NINE pitches, I thought, m a y b e this would really be James’ night. He did end up with a SIX inning shutout but, it was far from smooth sailing . . .

Pitching with a FOUR run lead in the 2nd, after retiring the first two batters, he proceeded to walk the bases loaded but, got Barmes to pop up on his THIRTY-EIGHTH pitch of the inning. The Padres also loaded the bases for Barmes in the 4th – this time he struck out. So, ‘t wasn’t always pretty but, the result was great as James records his first victory . . .
SIX innings ~ THREE hits ~ ZERO run/earned runs ~ FIVE walks ~ FIVE strikeouts

} Danny continued to struggle, getting the lead off batter in the 7th but, loading the bases with a single and TWO walks
} Tom came in and got Kemp to hit a ground ball but, Chris booted it so, not only did the runner score from 3rd but, the bases were reloaded. He struck out the next batter then, allowed a single that scored the rest of the inherited runners and ended the inning with a strikeout.
} Charlie retired the Pads in order in the 8th
} Mark had a bit of a rough go (thankfully, the lead was LARGE) allowing a couple of walks, a double and a run

AT the PLATE
Let’s just say . . .
save some for tomorrow! 😉

~ Nice homer to hit ratio (SIX / FIFTEEN)
~ Kyle got the homer parade going in the 1st with a THREE-run shot
~ LoMo, Nellie  and Justin (pinch-hitting for Brad) all launched solo shots (Justin’s first as a Mariner)
~ Really awesome to see Zu coming around – 3/4 with THREE RBI via TWO homers (all three hits w/TWO strikes)
~ Brad (DH’ing tonight) had consecutive ground rule doubles (one in RF corner, one in LF corner
~ ALL the starters had at least ONE hit, FOUR had multiple hits
~ ALL but TWO starters scored at lease ONE run
~ ALL but THREE starters had at least ONE RBI

IN the FIELD
* Chris had the error in the 7th that led to TWO unearned runs
* he was also part of a tailor made double-play in the 3rd
* but, the WEB GEM of the night belongs to Dustin Ackley . . .

g21 | boom + broom = swEEEp!!!

Mariners 5 | Rangers 2

First M’s sweep of the Rangers in Texas since 2002!

three_brooms1

ON the MOUND
Felix wasn’t totally Felix but, he hung in and was able to record his first victory in Texas since 2010
SIX.TWO innings ~ FIVE hits ~ TWO earned runs ~ ONE walk ~ FOUR strikeouts

Bullpen totally awesome tonight!
} Danny posted ONE.ONE hitless, scoreless innings
} Nando with yet ANOTHER 1-2-3 inning for his SEVENTH save (THIRD in-a-row!)

AT the PLATE
Every starter (except AJ) was on base at least once . . .
~ Nellie’s homer was EPIC (483 feet!) and he had another hit, another run scored and a walk
~ LoMo finally catching some breaks – FOUR for FIVE tonight w/ a DOUBLE and TWO RBI
~ Justin with a DOUBLE and a run scored
~ Rickie with THREE walks and a run scored
~ Zu, no hits but, TWO walks = good sign

IN the FIELD
* hey mom, look! no errors! AND a DP turned (Robbie-Brad-LoMo)
* Rangers, on the other hand, had FOUR (well, sometimes you get the breaks, sometimes they get you)

g20 | the HAPPiness continues!

Mariners 2 | Rangers 1

road winners

Nice to have the series in the bag with Felix up next and a decent shot at the first sweep! 🙂

ON the MOUND
Chalk up another QS for JA!
(unfortunately, I didn’t get to see/hear it but, seems like one of his best yet!)
The run he allowed didn’t come until TWO outs in the 7th!
SIX.TWO innings ~ SIX hits ~ ONE earned run ~ ONE walk ~ NINE strikeouts

Bully really rounding into form (now that they’ve had more normal “rest” of late) . . .
} Tyler retired the only batter he faced (to end the 7th)
} Dom was the only reliever not to record an out (allowed a single to the only batter he faced – leading off the 8th)
} Charlie and Yoervis combined to get the THREE outs to end the 8th
} Nando, only needed TEN pitches to set them down 1-2-3 in the 9th for his SIXTH save and JA’s SECOND victory!

AT the PLATE
Only SEVEN total hits . . .
~ THREE for extra bases (Nellie with a double AND a triple and Rickie with a HOMER!)
~ Justin checking in on base TWICE again (TWO singles)

IN the FIELD
Not the best . . .
* another error by Brad
* no DP’s turned but TWO turned against them 😦

g19 | from a bumpy plane ride, to a smooth sailing win!

Mariners 3 | Rangers 1

confidence

Tonight, Tai got some of both tonight!

ON the MOUND
Way to go, Taijuan!
That’s the young gun we know and love: power, command and control, not to mention learning to work out of trouble . . .
SEVEN innings ~ SIX hits ~ ONE run ~ ZERO earned runs ~ ONE walk ~ FIVE strikeouts

Supportive ‘pen . . .
} Charlie and Carson combine for a scoreless “hold” in the 8th
} Nando does his Nando thing . . . runners get on but, they don’t get in and the arrow flies somewhere over Arlington for his FIFTH save, preserving Taijuan’s FIRST victory

AT the PLATE
Not a whole lotta O but, THANKFULLY, it wasn’t needed tonight
~ Only FIVE hits
~ NONE for extra-bases but, advantage taken of some miscues
~ Good on Justin . . . TWO walks and TWO runs scored and his first SB of the season!
~ TWO for SEVEN w/RISP (which doesn’t sound that great but, it’s a BIG improvement compared to lately 😉 )

IN the FIELD
* Chalk up another error 😦 (Brad)
* But, also a DP turne (Kyle-Willie)

tweets of the game . . .

Indeed it was!
The M’s found a WIN at the end of the rainbow (who needs gold, anyway?!?)

from the grief of the grid iron to the dream of the diamond . . .

Being SO close to feeling, for a second time, the euphoria still simmering from the first championship only to have it abruptly snatched away in the final seconds was pretty brutal (to put it mildly). It’s going to take some time.

Luckily, there’s a cure . . .

the delicious distraction that is BASEBALL 🙂 – some catchin’ up to do . . .
